Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a wide array of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in strength within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Introduced

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes Teor (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at a single group would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, connecting the individual narratives before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Planners, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these specific adventurers are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a brutal first encounter with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—used The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, striking the character, and stealing all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The traitor then cleared his debts and escaped to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Moreover, each character has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks retribution.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows Timmony and warns that it is a nasty place.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in House Halovar could help the party enter locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Additionally, The grateful character pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are wanted by the powers that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander defied the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners parties.

Viewers can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on October 24.
