The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Each time a significant prize-giving event approaches, you'll find an outcry to include additional classifications to honor unsung work and delight the hearts of fans with niche passions.

A fellow writer made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. So would strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist if I try to elbow in front since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: There should be a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and it will always spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they barely qualify one unified medium.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of interactive entertainment excellence to receive acknowledgment, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events presently include genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, making space possible for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Consider three of outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: building puzzles from a specific release, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios of a third title. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Acknowledgment Issues

Many instances occur excellent brain-teasers launched regularly lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, except when they manage to fit for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated for anything that year
  • A different innovative game was excluded in 2019
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Only a few puzzle games barely qualified for independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game holds tremendous importance. Well-known matching games count as the most-played games in the world maintaining this status for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience challenges popular creative games claiming status as best-selling game of all time; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter such difficulty. It would be easy to populate five nominees engaging, different, qualified experiences each ceremony simply — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these are games without proper classification during prominent ceremonies. Puzzle game makers are working at the challenging frontier of video game design, producing among the purest expressions of the video game form. Similar to cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. We shouldn't delay generations.
